A nourishing organic baby oil, rich in linoleic fatty acids from sunflower and starflower, to soften your baby’s skin, protect their delicate skin barrier and clear cradle cap. Starflower (borage) with its high content of Gamma Linolenic Acid (GLA) has been shown to be particularly beneficial. The addition of coconut oil softens the blend and gives a gentle natural coconut aroma making it ideal for massage. Our pump cap makes dispensing easy.

Warm in your hands before sharing a lovely massage with your baby. For cradle cap gently massage half a teaspoon of oil on the scalp twice a day for two weeks. Leave for at least fifteen minutes before gently combing or brushing to remove any softened flakes. Thereafter use three times a week. Use Baby Bath when needed to clean excess oils from the hair.

Massage - The legs are a good place to introduce baby massage. Begin by warming Baby Oil in your hands before holding your baby’s ankle with one hand. With your other hand around the top of their thigh, fingers on top and thumb underneath, stroke down towards the ankle. In a smooth transition swap hands at the ankle so the opposite one supports. Place your free hand at the top of the thigh and repeat in a flowing motion. Keep your fingers close together as you massage.

Nutrition If your baby has cradle cap some dietary interventions may help. One possible cause of the condition is fungal infection so if you or your baby has had antibiotics or you otherwise suspect a fungal component and are still breastfeeding:

Try to avoid refined sugars which feed yeasts

Include live bio yoghurt

Supplement your diet with an acidophilus supplement

Babies can also be given an infant specific supplement containing bifidus infantis.

Poor intestinal flora may lead to biotin insufficiency as this B vitamin is manufactured by the good bacteria in our intestines. This vitamin is needed by the body for the metabolism of essential fats and has a role in promoting healthy skin, hair and nerves.

The richest dietary sources of biotin are liver and egg yolks but it is also found in meat, dairy and wholegrains. Avoid foods using raw egg, such as homemade mayonnaise, as this contains a protein which binds biotin making it unavailable for absorption.

As cradle cap is also an inflammatory condition include sources of essential fatty acids (from fish or cold pressed oils) to encourage the production of anti inflammatory prostaglandins.

  1. Sarah

I absolutely love this oil. It has a nice, subtle smell and is gentle enough for our four month old who has eczema and very sensitive skin. As well as using it for baby massage, we have been applying it to her scalp, which has improved her cradle cap enormously (much better than olive oil or any of the chemists product we tried). The nomnom products are also beautifully packaged and this oil would make the perfect gift for a new baby.

  2. Mary Lobo

I use this oil for facial massage on my pregnant clients or on those with sensitive skin. The oil sinks straight into the skin and has a delicious smell. Although the smell is not strong, it is very comforting. Reminds me of coconut cake! I would highly recommend this oil to other massage therapists who are looking for a high quality oil to use on their clients with sensitivities or for those who prefer a natural aroma when practising massage.

  3. Hannah

After using rather basic oils for massage purposes on our baby, I switched to this one after discovering it at a natural baby fair. It is a brilliant massage oil which keeps baby’s skin lovely and soft, and the scent is subtle, but calming. Our baby loves it and mum and dad do too! I would recommend it to anyone looking for a nice gentle massage oil for their little one.

  4. Rebecca

I have used this on my 12 week old every day for the past 5 weeks and can’t recommend it enough! It leaves his skin feeling beautifully soft without being greasy. It’s great on his delicate skin and has a lovely, mild scent.

  5. Mark

Having tried out many products on the market we won a set of these products at a baby fair. And we’re so glad we did as we finally found what we had been looking for.

A fantastic product that we just order again and again!

  6. Dominique

Definitely a 5 star oil! I have used it for 3 weeks on my 5 months old son’s head. He had cradle cap and it is now gone. The smell is gentle and it is easy to apply. I highly recommend it to all mums.

  7. Naomi

My Babies are all grown up now so I use it on myself. As I have very dry dehydrated skin I like to use a small amount of this oil over my body lotion after a shower. It makes a huge difference by sealing in the moisture and this way my skin looks and feels normal and comfortable for the whole day. At night I apply it to my face and then wake up next morning to well nourished and supple skin. The oil is light and sinks in very quickly and is very moisturising even on its own. I have been using this Starflower Baby Oil for over a year and still love it.

  8. Charlotte

I have been using this oil for years now. I first discovered it when my son was born and used it for his cradle cap. It was a wonder oil and cleared it up in two weeks. He had very sensitive skin and this was perfect for him. Now I use it on my baby daughter.
