It’s Organic Beauty Week 19th – 25th September!
This year the Soil Association are encouraging everyone to “Look for the Logo” when buying skincare.
In an excerpt from my skincare guide “10 Steps to Super Healthy Baby Skin” I explain why this is important.
Unlike food, it is not currently a legal requirement for natural and organic skincare to be certified which makes it difficult to determine if a product is genuine. Many companies make misleading claims of naturalness and label products as organic while using minimal organic ingredients.
If you want to make sure the skincare you choose is truly natural and/or organic and label decoding is not your thing, look for a certification logo like the Soil Association in this country and Ecocert, BDIH, Cosmebio, NaTrue, USDA in others. COSMOS is a harmonisation standard for several of these.
As well as guaranteeing organic status and listing the total organic percentage of a product they have tight regulations on permitted chemicals and ensure high levels of gentle plant based ingredients.
By looking for the logo you can be sure that the skincare products you use contain only what you need to cleanse, soothe and protect your skin and nothing you don’t.
In last year’s campaign for clarity I shared my own personal story to encourage awareness of of organic certification in skincare. Read my story HERE and learn why pregnancy and the early years is a significant time to consider the skincare you use.
